City Facts

Located close to the cities of Junagadh and Amreli, the Gir Forest is home to 411 Asiatic lions and is the only natural habitat of this subspecies around the world. The leopard, sloth bear, jungle cat, rusty spotted cat, striped hyena, golden jackal, cheetal, nilgai, sambhar, four-horned antelope, chinkara, wild boar and hare are also easy to spot here, along with around 200 species of avifauna.

For those with a penchant for history and culture, the hotel is also close to religious sites such as the Somnath, Banej and Kankai temples, and a host of historical destinations including Junagadh, Gondal and Rajkot.

The Gir National Park and Sanctuary are normally closed from 16th June to 15th October because of the monsoons. However, the weather is very pleasant during these months for family getaways, visits to the historical and cultural destinations nearby, and is especially great for bird-watching. The Gateway Hotel Gir Forest is also available for small conferences and workshops.
